Kon Tiki
4.5/5 ♥'s
This isn't the kind of movie I would normally review, but I liked it so much that I had to post about this lastest version of Kon Tiki. Admittedly and shamefully (as an English B.A), I have never read the best-selling account of this true-life adventure. After seeing the movie, however, it is now on the top of my reading list.
This is the story of 6 men who, for the sake of scientific research, build a raft and set themselves adrift off the coast of South America, hoping to arrive in Polynesia via the good graces of Mother Nature. Along the way, there are some edge-of-your-seat wildlife encounters. I was seriously freaking out about some the scenes. My roommate even had to come check on me to see if I was okay!
This movie will spark your sense of adventure (and make you wonder if you're wasting your time sitting on your butt watching movies). Also (huge bonus), it has one of the yummiest male casts ever. Starring Pål Sverre Hagen as the expedition's leader, Thor Heyerdalkay.
Interestingly, Thor Heyerdalkay released a documentary with real footage from the expedition. I haven't seen it yet, but now I really want to after seeing this movie.
Kon Tiki (2012) is currently streaming on Netflix.
