Movie Review: Nobody Knows

I highly recommend this movie!
My <3 rating: 4/5

Nobody Knows is a Japanese movie about a family of abandoned children.  Although it is slow in action, the story moves along and captures your attention as your heart goes out to the characters.  You don't have to be a bleeding heart to like this movie, but if you do happen to be the sensitive type, this movie is definitely for you.

Fed up with her responsibilities, the mother takes off and doesn't seem to care at all how the children survive without her.  She is easy to hate!  The main character, and eldest boy, assumes responsibility for his siblings whom the mother has not allowed education or even to go outside.  With each new problem, the children find new and creative ways to cope, all the while realizing their special situation has cut them off from a regular childhood.

This movie is good for Japanese listening practice, but the subtitles are good and easy to keep up with even if Japanese isn't on your bucket-list.  It's a few years old, but it's contemporary enough that you don't notice it's dated in any way.  The winner of a bunch of prizes, find it streaming on Netflix.  I hope you enjoy this movie as much as me.
